The Green Rotater + Strong Arm Kit + Rotater Pad

We would like to thank Leonard Van Gelder for taking the past few weeks to test and evaluate our shoulder rehab tool – the Rotater.  Leonard Van Gelder is the blogger behind Dynamic Principles and is:

  • a certified strength and conditioning coach
  • a certified athletic trainer
  • 20 year veteran of the martial arts
  • also in the process of pursuing his Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy

Here is an excerpt from Leonard’s review:

Overall, the beauty of the Rotater is in its simplicity, it does its intended job very well. I commend the team over at Joint Mechanix for putting the Rotater together without an orthopedic rehab background!

Shoulder Stretching Tool Reviewed by Pitching Coach

April 21, 2012

Dan Blewett, owner of Dan Blewett Sports Performance and Warbird Pitching Academy, recently posted the following video review of the Rotater shoulder stretching tool.  I’ve been reading Dan’s blog for the last few months and can feel his passion for pitching / athletic excellence.  I contacted Dan and asked him if he would be interested in evaluating our shoulder stretching tool.

Dan notes several things about the Rotater shoulder stretching tool in this video:

  • Shoulder Stretching Safety – it’s safer for an athlete to stretch himself / herself than to rely on a fellow athlete.
  • Immediate Feedback – the athlete feels the stretch
  • Although an excellent shoulder stretching tool for external rotation, most baseball players don’t need more external rotation
  • The Rotater shoulder stretching tool is great for stretching a pitcher’s internal rotation
  • Different than the sleeper stretch .. the pitching arm is in a more natural throwing motion
  • The Rotater is lightweight, sturdy and easy to take with you

Disclaimer:  The Rotater was provided to Dan Blewett at no charge to him, with nothing required on his part.

Shoulder Exercise – Overhead Medicine Ball Pass

Shoulder Exercise - Overhead Medicine Ball Pass

Overhead Medicine Ball Pass

Shoulder exercises can get boring.  Every time you push or pull a weight, you’re performing a shoulder exercise.  Booooring !!!  So sometimes, I like to try something different … add some functionality to my shoulder workout.   Here’s a shoulder exercise I began doing recently.  It’s a plyometric shoulder exercise and works your shoulders both concentrically and eccentrically.

It’s very simple:

  • hold a medicine ball in one hand
  • laterally raise the arm holding the ball and toss the ball overhead
  • reach above your head with your empty hand and catch the ball
  • when you’ve stopped the balls momentum, repeat by throwing the ball back overhead
  • 10 reps with each arm will make your shoulders tired.

Here are a few things to consider when doing this shoulder exercise:

  • start with a light medicine ball (I used a 12lb ball in the video and it’s a good shoulder workout)
  • it may make your biceps sore – I think it’s a result of catching the ball with your biceps in an extended position
  • it’s a great exercise for hand – eye coordination

Give the Overhead Medicine Ball Pass a try and let me know what you think.  If you have any questions, leave a comment and I’ll do my best to answer it.

Joint Mechanix, “..a great company”

Just had to let you know what a great company this is. I ordered the Rotater and it came really quickly. As it turned out my injury was not one that would benefit from using the product….but I must say they were so nice. I contacted them and they told me..”no problem”…wished me luck with my shoulder re hab and promptly refunded my ENTIRE amount immediately. If you have any doubts about giving them a try, have no doubts! If every company on the internet did business this way it would be so refreshing. I cannot say enough good things about them.

How To Regain Shoulder Range of Motion

December 21, 2011

We have great customers who want to share their shoulder rehab stories.  Here’s an email from two-time World Champion powerlifter, Pat Susco, who had extensive shoulder surgery in 2010.

Pat, who is 60, also sent a link to this video of himself doing weighted dips….incredible!  Here’s the video and below it you can read Pat’s Rotater testimonial:

Pat Susco’s Rotater Testimonial

..hey guys sent you an email off your website, not sure if it went thru…..anyway, a video of my shouders working 100% @ 60 yrs. old thanks to the Rotater …..wow, what great news ! ……what I did forget to mention was that the people who train in my “home gym” are also big Rotater fans and in fact I`m still waiting for one of them to return my Rotater dvd…..In short I`ve had 2 left shouder surgeries and rebounded well after the first in `94….however, the second in 2010 was much slower to respond , possibly because I was now 59. It was also a more extensive procedure with repair to a torn rotater cuff, torn labrum and the shaving of my clavicle. After a year of self rehab I was still quite limited on what movements I could do, the weight I could use and my limited ROM.

Then by chance, surfing the net for “new” shoulder rehab ideas I came across the video for the “Rotater” and was amazed by it`s versatility. I had already purchased a “shoulder horn” and loved it , however, it was limited to one movement. I purchased my “Rotater” from “Lifting Large” which is pretty prominent in the powerlifting community. I watched the video and was blown away by how many aspects of the shoulder the Rotater hit. Using it religiously 3x a week (on both shoulders !) in conjunction with my training, I regained full ROM , was pain free and even doing weighted dips !….My biggest concern now (having a powerlifters “more is better” mind set) is the discipline to continue to train smart and cycle my training to allow for “light days” and recuperation from the “heavy days” !

I should mention that along with now being 60, I`m a 2x IPA World Champion (`93 & `95 ) and multi-time masters champion (55-59) with an official squat of 920lbs. and deadlift of 745lbs. both done while in my forties.
