How To Regain Shoulder Range of Motion

December 21, 2011

We have great customers who want to share their shoulder rehab stories.  Here’s an email from two-time World Champion powerlifter, Pat Susco, who had extensive shoulder surgery in 2010.

Pat, who is 60, also sent a link to this video of himself doing weighted dips….incredible!  Here’s the video and below it you can read Pat’s Rotater testimonial:

Pat Susco’s Rotater Testimonial

..hey guys sent you an email off your website, not sure if it went thru…..anyway, a video of my shouders working 100% @ 60 yrs. old thanks to the Rotater …..wow, what great news ! ……what I did forget to mention was that the people who train in my “home gym” are also big Rotater fans and in fact I`m still waiting for one of them to return my Rotater dvd…..In short I`ve had 2 left shouder surgeries and rebounded well after the first in `94….however, the second in 2010 was much slower to respond , possibly because I was now 59. It was also a more extensive procedure with repair to a torn rotater cuff, torn labrum and the shaving of my clavicle. After a year of self rehab I was still quite limited on what movements I could do, the weight I could use and my limited ROM.

Then by chance, surfing the net for “new” shoulder rehab ideas I came across the video for the “Rotater” and was amazed by it`s versatility. I had already purchased a “shoulder horn” and loved it , however, it was limited to one movement. I purchased my “Rotater” from “Lifting Large” which is pretty prominent in the powerlifting community. I watched the video and was blown away by how many aspects of the shoulder the Rotater hit. Using it religiously 3x a week (on both shoulders !) in conjunction with my training, I regained full ROM , was pain free and even doing weighted dips !….My biggest concern now (having a powerlifters “more is better” mind set) is the discipline to continue to train smart and cycle my training to allow for “light days” and recuperation from the “heavy days” !

I should mention that along with now being 60, I`m a 2x IPA World Champion (`93 & `95 ) and multi-time masters champion (55-59) with an official squat of 920lbs. and deadlift of 745lbs. both done while in my forties.

Can the Rotater Help Baseball Pitchers Fight GIRD?

Using the Rotater to Improve Shoulder Internal Rotation of Baseball Pitchers

Driveline Baseball – Developing the Elite Baseball Athlete – Seattle, WA

Developing the Elite Baseball Athlete

We’d like to thank Kyle Boddy at Driveline Baseball for taking the time to evaluate the Rotater.  Kyle is the owner of Driveline Baseball, Inc – a training facility specializing in high-speed pitching analysis and strength and conditioning for athletes.

After putting the Rotater to the test for several months, Kyle published this review of the Rotater – Improving Shoulder Internal Rotation with The Rotater.  Here’s an excerpt:

“I’ve had the tool for a few months now and have been holding off on reviewing it until I was satisfied that it both did the job and that it was durable enough to keep around. As a guy who generally prefers DIY equipment and used stuff off Craigslist, it takes a lot for more to recommend brand new stuff, but this tool definitely fits the bill. It also helps that Chris and the guys who run the company are stand-up people who really believe in their product and the customer service behind it.”

Imitating, but not Duplicating the Rotater

October 26, 2009

They say that “imitation is the most sincere form of flattery”.  The Guys over at Homemade Gym Stuff must like the Rotater because they redesigned a pretty good “homemade” version.  Hey, you can’t blame a guy for wanting to save a few bucks!

Gym stuff, boxing, mma, fitness, etc.

Anyway, we liked their effort so much that we decided to send them a “real” Rotater to see how it measured up to their version.  Here are a couple of excerpts from their article “The Rotater – Revisited“.

…Simple, elegant & stylish – we love ‘em. Dave’s shoulders feel better than ever, Nath now has increased ROM/flexability and my glued-up-mouse-shuffling-key-pushing shoulders are rejuvenated…
…So a heartfelt ‘Thanks’ goes out to two great guys, Chris & Scott for their generosity and dedication not only to the health of the rotator cuff but to the health of ‘er in doors’ too…

Long Driver Increases Shoulder Flexibility and Loses Shoulder Pain

July 9, 2009

“I’ve been using the Rotater every second day and use it while warming up before a round. I’ve been in AZ for the past month and had an interesting experience.

It was a long par 4, 485 yds. I hit driver – lob wedge. Usually I would have driver – 5 or 6 iron.

So the Range of motion increase and the flexibility was noticeable to me. I’ve also had less soreness in the shoulder where my old football shoulder separation was.

It seems that the Rotater is helping breakdown the scar tissue that gave the shoulder some of its stiffness and pain.”

Stats for Bob Orr

  • Longest drive in competition – 376 yards
  • Longest drive ever – 408 yards – on the 10th hole at Industry Hills
  • Winner Nitro National Senior Long Drive 1997
  • Current age 61 years
  • Average driving distance – a little over 300 yards
  • Problem Calcium and scar tissue build up from former football shoulder separation had restricted my flexibility. The Rotater used daily for 6 months at 10-15 minutes daily alleviated the majority of my pain and increased my flexibility by 40% Plus.

Update from Bob

“Your Rotater has been the best rehabilitation for my shoulder. the old football injuries that gave me a stiffness has been relieved and my shoulder rotation for long driving the golf ball has been great. Not many 61 year old guys can get it out over 320 yds which I did last week at a charity event fundraiser for Lukemia.”

Disclosure: Bob was provided with a Rotater at no charge.  His testimonial was voluntary and not required.
