Shoulder Tool Delivers On Promises

January 26, 2011

Twitter is a great place to meet unique people…people who are willing to share their knowledge and expertise. Milda Simonaitis is one of those people and is very passionate about fitness.  In fact, she is the ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) Key Contact for 53rd CA Congressional District.  So, when I had the opportunity, I contacted Milda in hopes she would evaluate the Rotater.  Shee agreed to take a look…this is her response:

Simple and Functional

“First and foremost, I was struck by the design of the Rotater: very simple and functional. I appreciated the ability to adjust it to fit my arm and the fact that it put my arm in the correct position to work the muscles I needed to work. The beauty of this is that it does what it’s supposed to do, and it does it with the least amount of unnecessary gadgetry possible. I have curious kids in the house and there’s little for them to break. High marks for the design!

Supporting Materials are Exceptional

Personal Trainers provide Knowledge & Drive

But what I think I appreciated most was the supporting information, particularly the DVD. Because I’m certified as a personal trainer (ACSM-CPT), I feel that providing an appropriate amount of information is one of the keys to success (and for me that means enough to answer the main questions that someone might have). Providing a run-down of the shoulder muscles is invaluable, especially to anyone who isn’t aware of what’s involved in shoulder movement. Eric Beard does an exceptional job of both that and describing how to use the Rotater. His delivery is professional and articulate. The care with which the DVD was developed is a testament to the high quality of this product.

I have to add that while I usually question the wisdom of including bloopers in an instructional DVD, in this case, I found it somewhat gratifying to see even Eric fumbling with getting the Rotater into proper position, much in the same way that I did initially. ;)

“A Definite Recommend!

I used the Rotater to strengthen the entire shoulder region. I occasionally launch into periods of doing high-rep bodyweight exercises. When I received the Rotater I was doing a push-up challenge (3000 push-ups in 30 days). The Rotater helped stretch my shoulders (which felt awesome, by the way), but after the challenge was over, allowed me to work the muscles that I’d neglected during the previous 30 days. I tend not to have shoulder issues, so I can’t speak to whether or not it would aid in rehab; however, my husband is a former college-level competitive swimmer and baseball player (catcher) and now surfs regularly, so I plan on putting his shoulders to the test as soon as I can nail down a schedule with him!

This is a well-designed product that delivers what it promises. Lots of thought put into it. A definite recommend!”

Doug Fioranelli gives his opinion of the Rotater

“I had the opportunity to use The Rotater for several months now and I have to say this is an amazing product.  It is very simple to use and easy to understand.  Pretty much get it out of the box and you are ready to go.

I think it is very important for people to realize that joints do not move in the exact same pattern even when essentially performing the same motion.  It is a huge advantage to expose, strengthen, and mobilize the shoulder joint and its muscles in as many movement patterns as possible to ensure their optimal strength, stability and performance.  The Rotater allows for unlimited angles to stretch, mobilize and  strengthening the joint and muscles around the shoulder to maintain its movement and integrity.

I found The Rotater to be a great tool and have even loaned mine out to friends who were having shoulder inhibition and pain.  I highly recommend that you add this fantastic tool to your arsenal and keep your shoulder joints mobile, strong and healthy for life.

Pros:

  • Simple to use and easy to understand.  Pretty much get it out of the box and you are ready to go, I like that.
  • The unlimited angles for stretching and strengthening.  I think it is very important for people to realize that generally joints do not move in the same pattern even when essentially performing the same motion.  It is a huge advantage to expose, strengthen, and mobilize the joint and muscles in as many movement patterns as possible to ensure their optimal strength, stability and performance
  • I like how easy it is to stretch and strengthen the muscles of the shoulder when the arm is placed behind the back.  It is VERY difficult to do this without The Rotater.  I was surprised to see how limited my right side was until I used it and I was able to gain some ROM using it.

CONS: (I am being very very nit picky, I think it is a great product)

  • Plastic frame could be a little stronger.  I did not break mine but I did almost step on it getting out of bed and could have cracked it.  I also felt it “flex” sometimes when I do certain movements.  Maybe just a little harder plastic would be good for future frames.
  • I think the elastic strengthening band could be a little easier to adjust when switching angles and tension.  I think instead of closed loops on the frame and untying it each time, maybe an open “bulb-shaped” slot could work where the elastic could just drop down and secure itself in there
  • My DVD sound only worked on the main menu page, not sure if it was just mine or a few of them.”
