How to Self-Mobilize Your Shoulder

February 18, 2011

Here’s an excellent video from Eric Beard demonstrating how to “self-mobilize” your shoulder.  As you can see in the video, Eric’s shoulder range of motion in forward flexion is limited.  By simply reaching around and pulling his shoulder blade, he’s able to immediately improve his range of motion.  If you can’t reach your shoulder blade, you can ask someone you trust to help you.  Give it a try and let me know what you think.

How to Stretch Shoulder External Rotation

Stiff, tight shoulders are usually the result of:

  • shoulder injury
  • shoulder surgery
  • long-term overuse – repeating the same motion, over and over
  • absolutely no reason at all – a condition known as “frozen shoulder” or adhesive capsulitis

This video reveals how the Rotater will increase your shoulder flexibility – specifically, the external rotation of your shoulder. These shoulder stretches:

  • are very simple
  • duplicate many of the same shoulder stretches that are a part of most shoulder rehab protocols
  • are used in physical therapy clinics everyday
  • are used by athletic trainers to increase the shoulder flexibility and range of motion of their athletes

“I am absolutely amazed with the effectiveness of the Rotater. My client no longer has pain or discomfort in his shoulder, is performing shoulder presses, lat pulldowns, and will NOT require seeing a specialist…” – read how this trainer helped his client’s shoulder

Tennis Player Beats Adhesive Capsulitis

September 11, 2010

The following is an email testimonial we received from a medical professional who purchased the Rotater.  Don used the Rotater as a part of his physical therapy program to overcome adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder).

Strong Shoulders for Tennis

Shoulder Injuries & Tennis

“As an avid tennis player I had noticed stiffness in my shoulder for several years without any noticeable pain. An exercise program designed for upper body strengthening resulted in significant pain which caused sleep disturbance and progressed to acute pain with overhead activities as well as inability to execute the service motion.

As a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) I have administered anesthesia for hundreds of shoulder surgeries.  Although many patients require surgery I was motivated to pursue a more conservative treatment regime.

I was diagnosed with Adhesive Capsulitis and only 50-60% of normal external and internal rotation.  Using the Rotater daily and combined with physical therapy I have progressed to 100% external rotation and 95% internal rotation in less than nine weeks.  I have no pain and am back to playing tennis.  The Rotater is remarkable in that it enables external and internal stretching that could otherwise only by performed by a physical therapist.  The Rotater significantly shortened my rehabilitation and I doubt physical therapy alone would have been sufficient.  Needless to say the Rotater will continue to be part of my maintenance program.”

UPDATE: We received the following email from Don after his initial testimonial…it reads:

“Hi Chris

I remembered something I should have included in my last email.  After a few months of the daily routine of stretching using the Rotater, a simple pulley system and throwing a weighted ball I decided the shoulder had progressed enough to discontinue the routine.  That was not a good decision.  After a couple of weeks I noticed the shoulder was more and more uncomfortable and I was concerned that I had different pathology than the original diagnosis.  I resumed my previous regime hoping for the best.  In about 10 days the pain was gone and it is evident that the Rotater needs to be a daily routine for me to maintain a healthy shoulder.  There is simply no substitute.”

Regards,
Don Elswick – CRNA
